Jonathan Ross has used his weekly BBC Radio 2 show to accuse his employer of not employing enough people from ethnic minorities. On his show this morning, Ross suggested the BBC "hadn't got there yet" with its recruitment policy, and claimed the corporation employed black people as security guards and cleaners, but not as on-air staff.
He asked: "How many black people have they got working on proper shows? They (black people) are either standing on the door or carrying a cloth."
At a Radio Academy discussion last month asking the question "Is radio racist?", it was revealed that 10.9 per cent of BBC radio employees were from an ethnic minority background, compared with 6.9 per cent from commercial radio.
In the UK as a whole, around 10 per cent of the population is from black and ethnic minority backgrounds.
