Technology chiefs quit Google radio ads project

The two founding members of the company snapped up by Google to launch its foray into radio advertising have quit, throwing the future of the project into doubt.

Chad and Ryan Steelberg, the brothers behind advertising firm dMarc, have announced they are to step down, just 13 months after their California-based company was bought by Google for more than $100 million.

Technology pioneered by the Steelbergs was used in December last year to launch the search giant's "Audio Ads" programme, delivering targeted messages to US radio listeners using an automated system.

The beta test is limited to 20 Google AdWords customers, whose audio ad campaigns can be heard on more than 700 stations covering about 85 per cent of the country.

A Google spokesman told CNet News the audio ads trial would continue despite the Steelbergs' departure.

"Google is committed to the audio business," he said. "We will continue to gather feedback during the Audio Ads beta test and are happy with the progress to date."
