Terry Smith on Emap's new Liverpool talk station

Emap's new all-talk station is coming to Liverpool next summer — a cash-hungry, labour-intensive 24-hour mix of news, sport, discussion and documentaries.

I've just got off the phone to Radio City chairman Terry Smith. He's no stranger to the Liverpool radio scene — he was part of the consortium that bid for the first commercial radio licence in the city back in 1974.

There's a real sense of buzz about CityTalk. Smith says the new station will provide something that simply doesn't exist in the UK. It'll be "more punchy, have more personality and be closer to the edge" than BBC local radio, without pandering to the talk radio stereotype of "shock jocks" and incoherent phone-ins.
