Dan Morfitt joins Kerrang! Radio from Viking

Viking FM's Dan Morfitt has been announced as the new voice of Kerrang! Radio overnights, replacing Sean Coleman.

Morfitt, who presented Viking's local alternative music show, The Sunday Session, will join the station this Tuesday (23 January).

He will present the 2am-6am slot every weeknight, and will also front a Saturday lunchtime show on Emap's West Midlands rock station.

Kerrang! Radio was named commercial radio station of the year in the first Radio Magazine end-of-year "best of the best" review, after it won a string of awards at the Sonys and the New York Festival.

In the last set of Rajars, the station — which launched in 2004 — claimed just under 400,000 weekly listeners and a 3.4 share of the hotly-contested Brum radio market.

Emap Radio is bidding for the South Wales licence with the Kerrang! format, up against seven other bids including UTV, Absolute, Canwest, GMG and GCap.

A decision from broadcast regulator Ofcom is expected in the Spring.
