The Stereophonics, Bullet for My Valentine and the Lost Prophets are among the Welsh bands supporting Emap's bid to bring Kerrang! Radio to South Wales.Emap has confirmed it will be submitting an application to Ofcom by 12 December for the licence, with a decision expected in spring 2007.
Adrian Serle, MD of Kerrang! Radio, said: "Wales has an awesome history of rock music that Kerrang! has always supported.
"You only have to look at the hotbed of talent from this area to know that Kerrang! has a natural home here, serving a buzzing scene with the genuine article."
Kelly Jones, from The Stereophonics, said: “The need for this radio station is reflected in music and download sales, live music ticket sales, growth in demand for festivals and the advent of websites such as Myspace.”
If successful, Emap has pledged to invest £3 million in launching the station, hiring new presenters and helping to develop the area's local live music scene.
