Exclusive interview: Allan Lake is fast proving to be one of the rising stars of radio.Recently described at a Radio Academy do by 6Music's Rik Blaxill as “one to watch” — in front of a handful of programming execs — Lake's rise through the ranks hasn't exactly been without controversy.
He was sacked from his first gig on Isle of Wight Radio for a feature named "Bin Laden Reads The Bible" (the on-air execution was as shit as the name). Then he found himself in the Scottish Daily Record after calling Michelle McManus "a fat bitch" on Galaxy 102 in Manchester.
But behind this controversial bravado lies a young presenter who wants to bring something new to radio, loves interacting with callers and works tirelessly to try out ideas on air.
He’s just brought in an impressive set of Rajar results for Core’s breakfast show, but he doesn’t hide the fact that — in the long-run — it’s on late-night radio where he wants to make his mark.
We've had Penk and Whale and Abbot. If he has his way, the next big name could very easily be Lake.
